Explore Art and Science at the Bruce Museum

No advance registration is required and programs are free with Museum admission unless otherwise noted.
Bruce Beginnings
Tuesdays, 11:00 to 11:45 am and 1:00 to 1:45 pm
Bruce Beginnings – Members Only
Wednesdays, 9:30 to 10:15 amBruce Beginnings programs are designed for children ages 3 – 5 and their adult caregivers, who will explore the Museum’s collections and exhibitions through picture books and hands-on activities. Topics rotate between art and science.
Bruce Beginnings, Jr.Second Thursdays of each month, 9:45-10:45
This hour long program provides a welcoming and engaging museum experience for toddlers, ages 10-24 months, and their caregivers through hands-on play and exploration. Sessions are inspired by the museumās collections and exhibits.
Family Gallery Tours
Most Sundays 11:30 am – 12:30 pm
Designed especially for children ages 6 – 10 and their families, These toursĀ provide an interactive, discussion-based tour of the Museum’s current exhibitions.
Family Studio WorkshopsĀ
One Sunday a month, 1:00 to 2:30 pm
A 1 1/2-hour program for children age 4 and up with their families. Participants will create a work of art inspired by the Museum’s collections and exhibitions! This program is $7 per person for members and $15. for non-members, plus the cost of Museum admission. Registration required.
Afternoons at the Bruce
1:00-3:00 pmSpend the afternoon off from school discovering, learning and creating! Workshops are designed for grades K-5 and explore the museumās collections and exhibitions. Members $15, $25 for non-members. Advanced registration required.
Family Days
Select Sundays 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Check the calendar for family-oriented afternoons featuring activities, entertainment and fun learning for all ages. Themes vary.
Science Sunday or Art Adventure
Select Sundays,Ā 1:00 – 3:00 pm
Drop-in monthly programs designed for children 4 and up and their families to explore simple science and art concepts while partaking in kid-friendly experiments, projects, or crafts inspired by the Museum’s exhibitions and collections. Free with admission. Check the calendar for dates.
Our museum-based programs in art and science ā which promote critical thinking, visual literacy and oral express and are offered to children from pre-school to high school ā feature inquiry-based learning and hands-on activities with museum objects, with attention paid to varied learning styles. With the Brucemobile we offer an educational outreach program that takes the museum directly to students, giving them the chance to experience and explore right in their classrooms. Programs include Animal Adaptations,Ā Butterflies, Desert Ecology, Dinosaurs, Geology, Marine Ecology, Native Americans and Woodland Indians, Prehistoric Peoples, Printmaking, Shapes and Patterns, and Skeletons.The Neighborhood Collaborative, in its 17th year, offers free bus transportation and educational programs at the Bruce Museum for at-risk children in community centers, after-school programs and Head Start programs and now reaches over 700 children annually. As a part of the Neighborhood Collaborative, the Bruce Museum offers an after-school program for middle-schoolers in Greenwich and surrounding communities.And our educational programming doesnāt stop at the end of the school year. During the summer we operate the Seaside Center at Greenwich Point, which is staffed every season by Bruce Museum naturalists who offer programming, events and activities designed to educate visitors about the ecology of Long Island Sound and environmental issues, including guided nature activities, arts & crafts, and shoreline seining. Features include a live-animal marine touch tank, aquariums and seashore dioramas.Whether on-site at the museum or off-site at a school, the art and science programs of the Bruce Museum enrich the entire community.No Records Found
