New Date! Bus Trip to the Greenway Carousel Boston

Join Museum staff for a visit to the Boston’s Rose F. Kennedy Greenway Carousel!

Artist Jeff Briggs designed and sculpted a one-of-kind carousel for Boston. His challenge was to create decorations and rides inspired by the “land, sea and air” of the New England environment. Boston schoolchildren were also asked to make drawings of the animals they would like to see on the carousel. Their drawings served as the inspiration for many of the fourteen unique characters that Jeff brought to life, including a sea turtle, a grasshopper, a barn owl, a codfish and a whale. The finishing touch for each animal was a bright, kid-pleasing paint job by artist Bill Rogers, a longtime collaborator. Jeff is based in Newburyport, Mass., and earned a joint degree from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) in 1971.

Tentative Program:

8:30 AM Leave Museum promptly (95 Riverside Ave) Snacks and breakfast treats on Bus, lecture by Museum staff. Raffle

11:00 AM arrive at Greenway Carousel to meet creator Jeffrey Briggs and learn about the environmental aspects behind
each animal

11:30 Ride the Carousel

12:00 – 1:00 Guided tour of the Rose Kennedy Greenway Gardens

1:00 – 4:45 Free time in downtown Boston (lunch on your own) The Aquarium is nearby as well.

4:45 PM Board bus

5:00 pm bus leaves back to CT enjoy a glass of wine and snacks

7:30 PM anticipated return to Museum
